4 Common Low Calorie Diets And How They Work

There are many different ways that you can lose weight including following low calorie diets. While certain diets revolve around particular foods, these diets restrict the amount of calories consumed each day.

Below you will find four common diets that limit calories and how they work.

1. The Cookie Diet

This diet limits the amount of calories a person eats throughout the day. To avoid hunger, you must consume special “cookies” as meal replacements. Usually you must eat four to six cookies a day along with one small meal containing a 6 ounce portion of meat.

2. Weight Watchers

This diet program is one of the most popular and famous ways to lose weight. There are hundreds of thousands of people who look to the Weight Watchers program for support and guidance in order to reach weight loss goals. This is one of the many low calorie diet plans which assign a point amount to all foods. Counting and planning the amount of allowed points will help to keep calories in check.

Each person is different and will be assigned a certain amount of points for the day.  Besides food, this diet gives people needed encouragements and support. There are often weekly or monthly meetings where you can gather and exchange recipes, tips, or words of encouragement to stay on the weight loss track.

3. Hacker’s Diet

The low calorie diet is created by John Walker and focuses on how consumed calories and expended calories impact weight. It basically makes a person count calories and exercise on a regular basis to balance the amount of calories that are consumed each day. On this diet no foods are off limits, but certain foods must be eaten in moderation.  A person usually charts success and plans meal ahead of time to stay on track.

4. Breatharian Diet

This diet is rare and quite extreme in nature. It is based on a part of the Hindu religion that believes that a human does not require food to survive. No food is eaten except on rare occasions. Followers claim that they do not need to waste time preparing or digesting food. A breatharian believes that eating does not provide energy. In fact eating is thought to drain energy. This diet is strongly discouraged because it leads to starvation, dehydration, and death.
